About The Village

Welcome from the Director Harshi Sehmar

Welcome to The Village International Education Centre. We look forward to sharing exceptional working relationship with you that will be supportive and successful for all your child’s educational needs.

The Village provides a very special learning environment that is only developed when we fully understand the needs of each and every child.

Over the last 13 years, we are very proud of the achievements of our past and present students. The Village is unique – it offers not only impressive special needs programmes and a British curriculum, we also provide support beyond classroom learning, thus ensuring that we meet academic, social and emotional and life skills for all of our students.

We invite you to explore this website to develop a broader understanding of our school, and if possible to visit us to see our school for yourself.

About the Village

The Village International Education Centre is a very special place, driven by the strong belief that children with special needs should be given the best of everything, from the highest standards of teaching and support, to the most conducive environment in which to learn.

This belief stems largely from the Director’s own experience of school, which was far from positive.  Harshi Sehmar has dyslexia and struggled with reading and writing all the way through school.  His learning difficulty was not recognised, and, instead of getting the specialist help that would have made all the difference to him, he was written off as a ‘no-hoper’.  He was told that he would never be able to learn another language and that he would not pass his exams.  He left school with no qualifications and very low self esteem.  It was only through sheer perseverance and a determination to learn, that he was able to overcome his difficulties and eventually gain an Honours Degree in Education.

After his experience, it had always been Harshi’s vision to set up a school that would offer children with special needs all the opportunities that he was denied as a child, and since establishing The Village, (now in its 13th year),  he has turned this dream into reality.

The Village is housed in a beautiful Thai-style building in pleasant grounds on Sukhumvit Soi 42. The classrooms are bright, airy and cheerful.  The Village has an impressive staff list, which includes an educational psychologist, a Thai clinical behavioural psychologist, native English-speaking teachers experienced in special needs education, counselors, learning support assistants, and specialists in speech, dyslexia, early childhood education and occupational therapy.

The children at The Village are made to feel special.  The staff focus on the strengths of each child and devise Individual Educational Programmes, which give everyone the opportunity to shine.  Being able to succeed allows the children the chance to feel good about themselves, building their self esteem.  This is also encouraged by a very effective reward system and a very positive attitude from all the staff.

Harshi’s dedication and his pride in The Village are very inspiring.  His school has made a big difference to the lives of all its students and to their families.
